Description

On Terry Pratchett's Discworld witches use shambles made of whatever they find in their pockets and something living for the middle (e.g. a beetle or an egg) to detect magical structures around them or amplify woven magic (as for protection or spellslinging).

"Shambles are like spectacles, they help you see, but don't see for you." (Discworld Wiki)

I drew this for a friend as a part of a Discworld-themed craft swap.
This special shamble is made of three kinds of string, a pencil stub (she loves to write, novels and letters), wild rose hips (sort-of my heraldic plant), tuppence (old), dried nasturtium seed, a piece of mussle shell, a bit of bleached-out embroidery yarn (she does beautiful embroidering), a driftwood stick (I live at a river and love the velvetly soft, dry structure of driftwood), two owl feathers and an owl's egg (owls are her favourite animals, sort of a heralic theme, too).

I chose the number 128 not for a specific reason (although I would have loved to, I like background hints like this. But then again I had plenty of those in the shamble itself), it just felt right.

You are really very good with balancing elements! So are you a Wiccan artist or does Wicca simply infuence your art? -Misha James
